How to Fix Loose Action Figure Joints and Make Them Hold Poses Again
An action figure that once stood perfectly may start drooping, losing its balance, or struggling to hold a pose. Loose joints are a common problem, and sometimes you can fix them without replacing any parts.
Why Do Action Figure Joints Become Loose?
Many articulated figures use plastic joints that rely on friction to hold their positions. After repeated movement, the contact surfaces can wear down and gradually become loose. Some figures even have loose joints straight out of the box, especially ball joints that don't fit tightly enough.
How Can You Fix Loose Joints?
1. Use a joint-tightening solution There are products specifically designed to increase friction in action figure joints. They help the joint hold its position more securely. Check whether the product is compatible with your figure's materials, and test it on a small area first. 2. Add a thin layer of material For some removable ball joints, a thin layer of PTFE tape around the ball can help improve the fit. This won't work for every joint type. Never force apart pieces that are difficult to remove. 3. Check the joint before repairing it Sometimes the joint isn't worn out at all. It may simply be improperly seated or slightly misaligned. Check how the pieces connect before applying any solution or adding extra material.
What Should You Avoid?
Don't pour super glue directly into an assembled joint. It could permanently lock the joint or damage the figure. If the plastic is cracked or a joint peg is broken, increasing friction alone won't solve the problem. The damaged part needs to be repaired first.
